Marriage STEPS

The Legal Wedding Process in Hawaii

A member of our team will guide you through every administrative milestone. From the initial online application to the final registration with the State of Hawaii, our goal is to ensure your union is as legally sound and as easy as possible!

01.

Online Application

Initiate your legal record via the State of Hawaii portal. This must be completed prior to your wedding. If you haven't filled this form out before we set our wedding appointment, we will provide you with direct links and explicit instructions to streamline this first essential step.

02.

Licensing Appointment

Both partners must appear in person before a certified agent no more than 30 days before the ceremony. If you don't already have this appointment set before we speak, we can help you coordinate this mandatory step.

03.

Documentation

You are each required to present a valid government ID at your licensing appointment. For those previously married, divorce decree dates are required; physical divorce papers are only necessary if your divorce was finalized within the last 30 days.

04.

The Ceremony

Our officiant will perform only the basic, legal elements required by the state, but we'll still make that feel special (without taking away from any ceremony you will have or have had).

05.

Registration

Post-ceremony, your wedding officiant will electronically file your documentation. The Department of Health then processes and mails your official marriage certificate directly to your home.

The Final Details

Specializing in administrative ease means removing every point of friction. Here are answers to the most common queries regarding Big Island marriage logistics.

Is there a mandatory waiting period in Hawaii?

No. Once your license is issued by a marriage license agent, it is valid immediately. You can be married on the very same day.

Are witnesses required for the marriage?

No. Hawaii law does not require witnesses. Only the couple and the licensed officiant must be present to solemnize the union.

Can we get our license on another island?

Yes. A State of Hawaii marriage license is valid on any island, regardless of where the licensing agent is located.

What specific ID is required for the agent?

Both partners must present valid government-issued photo identification, such as a passport or a current driver’s license.
